Brothers and sisters:
Indeed the word of God is living and effective,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow,
and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart.
No creature is concealed from him,
but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him
to whom we must render an account. Heb. 4:12-13
Indeed, the word of God is sharper than any sword ever created. This is true with words, both verbal and written. Simple words may never hurt you, however, the meaning behind them, and the way they are presented can stop even the strongest of men (or women). People have to be conscious of the words they are expressing. They have the power to either fill someone with courage, or to strike them down into a depressive state of being. Even the most simple of words can strike fear into someone. That is real power when you think about it.
Swords can be intimidating to people. The Bible can be intimidating to people. The words in it are ones of hope, peace, love and joy. A sword can take years to master. The Bible shows you the path, but it does not come at an easy pace. The Bible’s instructions are clear, but easy to get off track for those of us that have been given free will (and that is everyone), and can take a lifetime to master. They are both so powerful, a novice can use them, but it takes practice and years to get good at them.
If we take a look at the world around us, most things are like this. It is a natural way of life. Jobs take years to get good at, parenting takes patience and practice to get good at. Driving… well, some people never master that, but still, everything that is worth any value in this world, takes practice and time to master. Remember that next time you fall, relapse, or have a setback. Everything in life takes practice and time to master… every stumble is there to help you get to be the master you want to be.
