Down and Out

I am sitting here this morning, inside my tiny grey cube, and pondering all the things that I have seen this week. It is almost overwhelming to think about every single thing. All the joy, happiness, sadness, fear, hatred, and everything in between, it is almost causing me to go into a panic.Prayers of hope and mercy for the victims everywhere in the world can only be said. The tragedies of this week are very sad. The really downtrodden part of everything is the polarization that is has stricken everyone with. There are victims in this, and that is something that never should be forgotten through all of this. There are people that conducted themselves in a way that caused terror in innocent lives, and they should not be rewarded in any way. The real issue is that the individuals that are doing these things have lost their sense of dignity for life itself.

Let me take a moment to thank our society as a whole for the need to have information at the speed of light. Publishing reports and speculations before the actual facts are presented is starting to annoy the crap out of me. Honestly, there is dignity that needs to be brought back to our own news cycles. I am all for breaking stories, but seriously, the way people no salivate to have any murder, rape, or whatever evil deed of the day spun up into a awesome graphic and plastered across screens at 5, 6, 10, and 11 everyday. Not to mention getting on the every 15 minute and ticker style rotation on the 24/7 news channels.

We, as a society, have become numb to these stories because we have been inundated with them for so long now. Instead of analyzing the story, and publishing the actual facts, we have so much slander within news organizations, it is atrocious. As a culture, to be bombarded with that negativity, sexual innuendos, and other vices, in a way, it is unavoidable. With the social media boom, everyone’s ideas and thoughts are put on display, but we have lost the civility of a debate on issues. The very moral fabric of our social structure has been torn to shreds, in the name of political correctness.

I can only teach my family the ways of life in a moral context. Only love can breed more love. I will refuse to teach them the ways of hatred, and of self degradation. I refuse to let them live in this world with no respect for others. I want them to understand that color or social status means nothing in the eyes of God. Honestly, I don’t want them to be the ones spreading hate in the world. I know that deep down, the way to our salvation as humans is to begin to spread kinship and love to one another. I believe it is still in our nature, but it is going to take us all together to do it.
