Children, it is the last hour;
and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming,
so now many antichrists have appeared.
Thus we know this is the last hour.
They went out from us, but they were not really of our number;
if they had been, they would have remained with us.
Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number.
But you have the anointing that comes from the Holy One,
and you all have knowledge.
I write to you not because you do not know the truth
but because you do, and because every lie is alien to the truth.
1 Jn 2:18-21
This is the last hour of 2015. The year has flown by for me, just as so many before it. It is amazing how much was accomplished, gained, lost, and changed for both the good and for the worst. It is the time of year where we reflect, look back, and try to do new things in the upcoming year. I look back and see a year that was full of events, and I am hopeful that the year to come with also be full of event.
In this reading from John, he starts off by saying this is the last hour. It really is the last hour, and it has been since the time of the Crucifixion. Many people see this as an ominous warning, I see it as a chance to renew yourself. Think about that for a minute, yes, we have been waiting for the return of Jesus. We all know that we can be called at any moment, yet, He gives us another day, every time we wake up. He is giving us the chance to start over again and do something different. Just like the ending of the year, it is giving us the chance to start over again. We have a chance every night to look back and reflect on the day as it was, and decide what parts about us we want to focus on the next day.
I pray that everyone has a great 2016 and that you all will find peace, happiness, joy, love and mercy in the new year.
Goodbye 2015, it has been fun on your rollercoaster ride!
