Let me start by saying, what an awesome weekend this was. Grandma and I took the kids to a wonderful destination, Chuck E. Cheese’s. I got to spend some quality with the family, and that for me, is always great. Also, the family and I went to this year’s Palm Sunday Mass. This Mass is great, because it marks the beginning of the Holy Week, which is by far my favorite time of year.
Today’s Mass starts with a recount of Jesus coming into the City of Jerusalem, and it ends with Jesus being wrapped in cloth by a man named Joseph. (See Luke 22:14 – 23:56) I am amazed at how fast things go from great to really bad for Jesus. The flow of it feels so fast, even when you are just reading the story in Luke on its own. I am just always amazed at how quickly the people go from praise to hate. Even when Pilate is clearly trying to persuade them to let Jesus go, the people are so full of rage, they would take a prisoner over Jesus. It really makes me very sad when I think about how cruel people can really be.
The journey this week will lead us to the best day of the year. It will lead us to the Resurrection of Jesus and a renewal of the eternal covenant that he brought to all of us. It is a sad story to read, but even in the end, there are people that still have compassion in their hearts, like the man Joseph. He is the one who takes Jesus to his final Earthly location, and it is there where he will rise up. It is a reminder that we are all on a journey, and sometimes that journey can be filled with huge amounts of pain and suffering. It is a reminder that as long as we remain faithful, the end of whatever journey will end with a glorious renewal.
