Supporting Characters

The one who comes from above is above all.
The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things.
But the one who comes from heaven is above all.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard,
but no one accepts his testimony.
Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.
For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God.
He does not ration his gift of the Spirit.
The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life,
but the wrath of God remains upon him. Jn 3:31-36

This part of the Gospel has always made perfect sense to me. The reason being that I, and with the total Grace of God, am able to read the entire story and life of Jesus on Earth. I can see the story unfold in front of me. Taking a step back, this Gospel was given to the Disciples right in the middle of the story. They did not know what was coming.

It is hard for me to imagine that. It would be really hard for me to understand what Jesus was really talking about if I was there with Him, in that moment. I would have so many questions for Him in that moment. Not that I do not have so many questions for Him today, because, every day of life I go through, I have questions about the story of my own life. I am just like those Disciples, in the respect that I do not know what the story will be as a go forward. Just like them, I am taking it on Faith alone that He is leading me in the direction that I am supposed to be going in. I may know the story of Jesus on Earth, but the incomplete story is how my life story fits into Jesus’ eternal life story.

Everyone, every single being, has a place in the story of Jesus. From the days leading up to His coming into the world, until today, we all play a part in His story. It is just so overwhelming to think about, yet, at the same time, I find great comfort in being apart of the story. I want to be the character in the story that everyone looks at as a great one. The one that people want to keep reading about, or the one that people can identify with. I can never compare to God or Jesus, in the overall story, they are the main characters, but I want to be one of the best supporting roles that has ever been, even if I fall short sometimes. My prayer for today is that we all can take our roles in this wonderful life story, and make them the best we can, for the Glory of God.
