Show Me A Sign…..

The crowd said to Jesus:
“What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you?
What can you do?
Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written:

He gave them bread from heaven to eat.”

So Jesus said to them,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven;
my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven
and gives life to the world.”

So they said to Jesus,
“Sir, give us this bread always.”
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” Jn 6:30-35

The many times that I can count that I have asked God to just show me a sign. Give me some physical manifestation that I am doing, saying, or being the right person that I am supposed to be. Give me that tangible so that I will be more of a believer… oh yes, I have done this many times, and I am sure that everyone can relate in some way.

This morning, I was trying to put myself in the shoes of the people that were in front of Jesus. Keep in mind, they had just seen Him multiple the loaves and fish, the followed Him into Capernaum, and now, they are still wanting a sign. Sounds familiar. This sounds like some of the nights that I have spent talking with Jesus and begging for some sort of sign that validates me. Looking at this passage, Jesus is being clear when He is saying, there is no need to be validated, just have faith and believe in Him.

That sounds simple enough. We should be able to do that on a constant basis. However, if you are anything like me, you slip up sometimes, and fall back into an Earthly way of thinking, and wanting something you can see, touch, feel, and even taste. Yes, I fall back on that, but I know, no matter what, as long as I keep believing in the one that was sent for me, then He will provide the way.
