Difficult Tasks

Moses said to the people:
“If only you would heed the voice of the LORD, your God,
and keep his commandments and statutes
that are written in this book of the law,
when you return to the LORD, your God,
with all your heart and all your soul.

“For this command that I enjoin on you today
is not too mysterious and remote for you.
It is not up in the sky, that you should say,
‘Who will go up in the sky to get it for us
and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?’
Nor is it across the sea, that you should say,
‘Who will cross the sea to get it for us
and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?’
No, it is something very near to you,
already in your mouths and in your hearts;
you have only to carry it out.” Dt 30:10-14

I took a few days off from writing. I honestly could not find the words to express exactly how I was feeling about everything and anything. Since the last time I wrote something, the United States have practically been on fire. Tensions among everyone have run very high, and it seems that we are more polarized than ever before. That may be true. With the news coming at us immediately now, we are feeling the stress of situations in almost real time, which is causing anxiety levels to fly off the chart. Down and Out

I am sitting here this morning, inside my tiny grey cube, and pondering all the things that I have seen this week. It is almost overwhelming to think about every single thing. All the joy, happiness, sadness, fear, hatred, and everything in between, it is almost causing me to go into a panic. Continue reading “Down and Out”

As Long As You’re Looking Back……

Yesterday, I was blessed to be able to hear the entire speech of Pope Francis while it was happening. Let me tell you, I have listened to people speak before, give speeches, but in my 35 years, this one was one of the best. I don’t know if it is because I am biased being a proud Catholic, or if in fact I just actually paid more attention to the historical nature of what was going on, but I was mesmerized by the whole thing. I was struck by one simple sentence, and I know I am going to get the quote slightly off, but he said, “It is difficult to judge the past on the criteria of the present.” He was referencing the Native Americans and other persecuted people that have been in our country, but I took the meaning to a new place. The Small Stuff

Jesus and his disciples left from there and began a journey through Galilee,
but he did not wish anyone to know about it.
He was teaching his disciples and telling them,
“The Son of Man is to be handed over to men
and they will kill him,
and three days after his death the Son of Man will rise.”
But they did not understand the saying,
and they were afraid to question him.

They came to Capernaum and, once inside the house,
he began to ask them,
“What were you arguing about on the way?”
But they remained silent.
They had been discussing among themselves on the way
who was the greatest.
Then he sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them,
“If anyone wishes to be first,
he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.”
Taking a child, he placed it in the their midst,
and putting his arms around it, he said to them,
“Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me;
and whoever receives me,
receives not me but the One who sent me.” Mark 9:30-37
